Martin Schongauer



Schongauer, Martin (1450?–91),German painter and engraver.He was one of the first engravers to use copper plates, and his delicate, skillful work influenced Albrecht Dürer and other German artists. His works include the engravings The Death of the Virgin Mary and Christ Bearing the Cross, the painting The Virgin in the Rose Arbor (1473), and the mural in Breisach, Last Judgment (c.1491).
