Schelde River



Schelde River, important navigable waterway of northwestern Europe. Rising in northwestern France, it flows 270 mi (434.5 km) north and northeast to Antwerp, Belgium, then northwest, as the East Schelde and West Schelde rivers, through the Netherlands to the North Sea. There are canal links to the Rhine and Meuse rivers.
