Saw Maung



Saw Maung (1928– ), president of the Union of Myanmar (Burma, 1988–92). Armed forces chief of staff and a close associate of former ruler Ne Win, he led the coup that placed him in office, ousting President Maung Maung. He then abolished parliament and formed the National Unity Party.
