Kingdom of Sardinia



Sardinia, Kingdom of, kingdom founded in 1720 when the Treaty of London awarded the island of Sardinia to Savoy. The kingdom included Sardinia, Savoy, Piedmont, and Nice. Napoleon annexed Sardinia to France in 1802, but it was restored after his defeat in 1815, and Genoa and Liguria were added to it. In 1861 Victor Emanuel II was proclaimed king of a united Italy that included Sardinia.
