Saratov



Saratov (pop. 909,000), one of the chief ports on the Volga River. Petroleum, natural gas, and power from the Balakovo hydroelectric station form the basis of oil-refining and chemical industries. Manufactures of this industrial complex include machinery, machine tools, ball bearings, flour milling, and consumer products.
