San Joaquin River

San Joaquin River, river in central California rising from the junction of 2 forks in the Sierra Nevada, south of Yosemite National Park. It flows 350 mi (563 km) southwest, then northwest across the San Joaquin Valley to reach the Pacific at Suisun Bay (eastern arm of San Francisco Bay). The very fertile San Joaquin Valley and the Sacramento River Valley to the north together constitute the Central Valley, a rich agricultural region. The 2 rivers have a joint delta east of Suisun Bay.
