Saint John's



Saint John's (pop. 96,216), largest city and capital of Newfoundland, Canada, situated on a well-protected harbor near the Grand Banks. The site was discovered by John Cabot in 1497 and is believed to have been settled shortly after. The city's key location has made it into an important docking port for fishing boats from around the world. St. John's stands as Newfoundland's chief cultural, educational, and commercial center.
