Saint Bernard

Saint Bernard, breed of large, stout dog developed as a rescue dog at the Alpine monastery of St. Bernard, Switzerland, in the 17th century. It measures up to 30 in (76 cm) at the shoulder and 180 lb (82 kg), and has a white and red or white and brown coat. Its acute sense of smell has helped it locate people buried in snow and makes it a valued guide dog.
