Saint

Saint, in Christian theology, person preeminent for holiness. The term was used in the New Testament to refer to all the faithful. It is now used to designate those recognized by a church as occupying an exalted position in heaven and being worthy of veneration due to martyrdom, holiness of life, miracles during life or after death, or a popular cult. All angels are saints, and the Virgin Mary is chief among them. Feast days in the Anglican, Orthodox, and Roman Catholic liturgies commemorate those canonized with sainthood.
