Safety

Safety, protection from harm, injury, or loss. In a modern, technological society the risks of injury or accidental death caused by machines are very high. Every year in the United States there are over 100,000 deaths from accidents and around 50 million people are injured severely enough to require medical attention. This works out to 1 accidental death every 5 minutes and an injury every 3 seconds. Apart from the immense personal suffering these figures represent, the cost to the economy is enormous. The prevention of accidents is a major concern of all governments.
