Nelly Sachs



Sachs, Nelly (1891–1970), German-born Swedish poet who fled Nazi Germany in 1940. Her poems deal with the sufferings and destiny of her Jewish people (O the Chimneys, 1967). She shared the 1966 Nobel Prize for literature with S. Y. Agnon of Israel.
