Julius von Sachs



Sachs, Julius von (1832–97), German botanist. Sachs studied plant metabolism and respiration, the role of minerals in plant nutrition, and the location of chlorophyll within plant cells. His The Textbook of Botany (1868) and History of Botany (1875) are among the most comprehensive and influential books in the field of botany.
