Richard Brevard Russell



Russell, Richard Brevard (1897–1971), influential U.S. Democratic senator (1933–71) from Georgia. Governor of Georgia (1931–33), he was twice candidate for the presidential nomination. As a senator he served as chairman of the Armed Services Committee, the Appropriations Committee, and as president pro tempore.
