Pete Rose



Rose, Pete (1941– ), U.S. baseball player. Known for his aggressiveness, he earned the nickname “Charlie Hustle.” He holds the all time major league record for hits (4,256) and was named the National League's Most Valuable Player in 1973. He played several positions while a member of the Cincinnati Reds (1963–78), the Philadelphia Phillies (1979–83) and the Montreal Expos (1984). In 1984, Rose returned to the Reds as a player-manager for 3 years, after which he continued to serve as manager until 1989, when he was suspended (later banned for life) from baseball for alleged gambling on baseball games.
