Rodeo



Rodeo, in the United States and Canada, contest and entertainment based on ranching techniques; it derives from late-19th-century cowboy meets held to celebrate the end of a cattle drive. It usually comprises 5 main events: calf-roping, in which a mounted cowboy must rope a calf, dismount, throw the calf, and tie 3 of its legs together; steer-wrestling, in which the cowboy jumps from a galloping horse and wrestles a steer to the ground by its horns; bareback riding on an unbroken horse for 8 to 10 sees; saddle-bronc riding; and bull-riding.
