Rob Roy



Rob Roy (Robert MacGregor; 1671–1734), Scottish outlaw, romanticized in Sir Walter Scott's Rob Roy (1818). He was outlawed for cattle theft in 1712 by the duke of Montrose, whose tenants he then plundered. Hunted for many years, he surrendered in 1722 but was pardoned in 1727.
