David Ricardo



Ricardo, David (1772–1823), English economist, founder, with Adam Smith, of the classical school. He made a fortune as a stockbroker and then devoted his time to economics and politics, becoming a member of Parliament (1819–23). His main work, Principles of Political Economy and Taxation (1817), pioneered the use of theoretical models in analyzing the distribution of wealth.
