Radio telescope

Radio telescope, basic instrument of radio astronomy. The receiving part of the equipment consists of a large dish that operates on the same principle as the parabolic mirror of a reflecting telescope. The signals that it receives are amplified and examined. It is possible to build radio telescopes far larger than any possible dish by using several connected dishes; this is known as an array.
