Racing



Racing, contest of speed in both individual and team competition, popular throughout history. The ancient Greek Olympics (700s B.C.) featured only a foot race. The marathon, a race of 26 mi 385 yds (42.2 km), is a test of both speed and endurance. Among the many types of races, which can involve machine operation or animals, are swimming, skiing, walking, roller skating, motorboat racing, and dog racing.
