Quetzal



Quetzal (Pharomacrus mocinno), bird in the trogon family. Compared to the cream-colored females, the resplendent quetzal males display long tails—up to 3 ft (91 cm)—and brilliant feathers colored green on their backs, gold on their heads, with deep red on their undersides. The national bird of Guatemala, the quetzal lives in countries of Central and South America as well as in Mexico.
