John Pym



Pym, John (1584–1643), English statesman. A Puritan, he led parliamentary opposition to Charles I and organized the impeachment of the Duke of Buckingham (1626). Dominating the Short and Long Parliaments, he narrowly escaped arrest by the king in 1642 and then arranged an alliance with the Covenanters in 1643.
