Israel Putnam



Putnam, Israel (1718–90), U.S. patriot and general in the Revolutionary War. A veteran of the French and Indian Wars, he was prominent in the Battle of Bunker Hill, but had less success as commander of Continental forces at the Battle of Long Island.
