Rufus Putnam



Putnam, Rufus (1738–1824), U.S. pioneer who served in the French and Indian Wars and in many of the engagements of the Revolutionary War. He emerged a brigadier general and chief engineer of the army and in 1786 helped organize the Ohio Company of Associates.
