Puffball

Puffball, fungus of the family Lycoperdaceae. Puffballs produce a roundish fruiting body (basidiocarp) that contains spores. Before maturity, the basidiocarp is firm and edible. The dry, mature puffball often has cracks from which the powdery spores issue.
