Power

Power, in mathematics, the total of a number multiplied by itself a given number of times. It was developed as a shortcut to having to write the same number multiplied by itself many times, for example, 5 to the fourth power means that the number 5 is multiplied by 5 four times. It is written as a cardinal number with a superior number to the upper right of it (54=625). In the example, 5 is called the base and 4 is the exponent.
