Portland

Portland (pop. 215,281), largest city in Maine. Located on Casco Bay, Portland was founded in 1632 and has one of the finest harbors along the Atlantic Coast. It is a major shipping center for pulpwood and other agricultural products and oil bound for the Portland-Montreal pipeline is unloaded there. Portland is also an important seafood processing hub and its downtown business district features many good examples of Victorian architecture.
