Ponta Delgada



Ponta Delgada (pop. 21,800), city on Saö Miguel Island, the largest of the Portuguese Azores islands. Its harbor is the main port of the Azores, exporting tropical fruits, vegetables, tea, and other products from the area. Other important industries in Ponta Delgada include sugar refining and liquor distilling. Its beautiful setting and favorable climate also makes it an active tourist resort.
