Poinciana



Poinciana, any of various tropical flowering trees in the pea family. The poinciana has large red or orange flowers that grow in clusters. Each flower has 5 petals and ranges in size from 3 to 4 in (8 to 10 cm) across. The royal poinciana (Delonix regia), which grows in southern Florida, has flaming red flowers and delicate leaves made up of small leaflets. Royal poinciana trees can grow to a height of 40 ft (12 m).
