Pneumothorax



Pneumothorax, condition in which air is present in the pleural space between the lungs and the chest wall. This may result from trauma, rupture of lung bullae in emphysema or in asthma, tuberculosis, pneumoconiosis, cancer, etc. Drainage of the air through a tube inserted in the chest wall allows reexpansion of the lungs.
