Pika

Pika, group of small mammals (family Ochstonidae) related to the hares and rabbits, also known as mousehares, whistling hares, and rock conies. They look like rabbits but have short ears and lack tails. Two species live in the Rocky Mountain regions, and the rest live in mountainous parts of Asia. Pikas are known for their piping calls and for “making hay”: rather than hibernate, they survive the winter by feeding on grass and herbs that they cut, dry in the sun, and store under a rock or log.
