Itzhak Perlman



Perlman, Itzhak (1945– ), U.S.-Israeli violinist. Although partly crippled by polio in childhood, he quickly became an accomplished musician, performing publicly from the age of 10. He made his professional New York debut in 1963 and won the Leventritt Competition in 1964. Known for his tone and technical excellence, and supported professionally by violinist Isaac Stern, he has become one of the world's leading violin soloists. His many recordings include works of the standard repertoire as well as Scott Joplin rags. He has also premiered many new works, including concertos by Earl Kim and Robert Starer.
