Perjury

Perjury, willful false statement made under oath during judicial or administrative proceedings. In a U.S. federal court a false statement must be relevant to the object of the enquiry in order to constitute perjury. As a criminal offense perjury is usually a felony punishable by imprisonment or a substantial fine. Subornation to perjury, the act of getting someone else to lie under oath, is also punishable as a crime.
