Pelvis



Pelvis, lowest part of the trunk, bounded by the pelvic bones and in continuity with the abdomen. The principal contents are the bladder and lower gastrointestinal tract (rectum) and reproductive organs, particularly in females the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, and vagina. The pelvic floor is a powerful muscular layer that supports the pelvic and abdominal contents and is important in urinary and fetal continence. The pelvic bones articulate with the legs at the hip joints.
