Pelé



Pelé (Edson Arantes do Nascimento; 1940– ), Brazilian soccer player. Often rated as the best player of all time, he was known for his precise passing and shooting and led the Brazilian national team to 3 World Cup titles (1958, 62, 70). In 1975 Pelé joined the N.Y. Cosmos of the North American Soccer League (N.A.S.L.) and led them to a championship in 1977, after which he retired. He scored 1,281 goals and is regarded as the best soccer player of all times. In the early 1990s he became Minister of Sports.
