Parma



Parma (pop. 170,600), city in the Emilia-Romagna region of northern Italy, capital of Parma province, on the Parma River. The city is an important junction on the Milan-Bologna rail and road route. The surrounding area is primarily agricultural and is known for the production of Parmesan cheese. Other local products include machinery and Pharmaceuticals. Parma was founded by the Romans in 183 B.C.
