Parliamentary procedure

Parliamentary procedure (parliamentary law, parliamentary practice, rules of order), rules that govern the functioning of legislative bodies and other institutions—such as clubs, political parties, or corporations—that hold meetings that resemble those of legislatures. The most popular book on parliamentary procedure is Robert's Rules of Order, originally compiled in 1876 and frequently revised since then. In the English-speaking world, parliamentary procedure is ultimately derived from the traditions of the British Parliament.
