Ignace Jan Paderewski



Paderewski, Ignace Jan (1860–1941), Polish concert pianist, composer, and politician. An internationally acclaimed interpreter of Frédéric Chopin, Franz Liszt, Anton Rubinstein, and Robert Schumann, he frequently toured the United States, where he sometimes gave concerts to raise funds for Polish causes. He was the first prime minister of the Polish republic (1919) and led the Polish government in exile (1940–41). He died in the United States.
