Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis, loss of bone mass and density. It occurs mainly among older people, especially postmenopausal women. Osteoporosis increases the risk of bone fractures in all parts of the body, can cause a weakening of the jaw and loss of teeth, and contributes to collapse of the spine. Preventive measures include exercise, calcium supplements, and, for older women, estrogen treatments.
