Osborn



Osborn, family name of two American zoologists. Henry Fairfield (1857–1935), was a zoology professor, geologist, museum curator, and paleontologist known for his studies of animal fossils. Between 1891 and 1933, he was associated with, and eventually president of, the American Museum of Natural History. His books include From the Greeks to Darwin (1894) and Origin and Evolution of Life (1917). His son, Fairfield Osborn (1887–1969), was an environmentalist who worked with the Save the Redwoods League, the National Audubon Society, the International Commission for Bird Protection, and was president of the New York Zoological Society.
