Orangutan

Orangutan, large, red, anthropoid ape (Pongo pygmaeus), native to the rain forests of Sumatra and Borneo. They are truly arboreal apes—walking quadrupedally along branches, or bipedally, with the arms holding on above. Occasionally the orangutans progress by swinging by their arms for short distances. They can move along the ground but rarely descend from the trees. They are vegetarians, feeding mainly on leaves, buds, and fruit.
