Orangemen



Orangemen, or Loyal Orange Institution, Protestant (chiefly Ulster) society that since the first (1795) lodge has identified with the Protestant ascendancy in Ireland and, more recently, union with Britain. The name is from William of Orange (William III of England, who succeeded the Catholic king James II in 1690).
