Olympic Mountains

Olympic Mountains, part of the Pacific Coast Range in northwest Washington. The highest point is Mt. Olympus (7,965 ft/2,428 m). More than 100 small glaciers are scattered among the peaks, and at the foot of the southwestern slopes are luxuriant northern rain forests. The mountains' natural beauty and abundance of wildlife caused Theodore Roosevelt to declare the area a national monument in 1909. It is now part of Olympic National Park.
