Nzinga a Nkuwa



Nzinga a Nkuwa (d. 1506), ruler of the Congolese people of west-central Africa. Following the arrival of the Portuguese in 1482, he promoted trade with Europe. Although considered by his people to be divine, he converted to Christianity and was baptized in 1491.
