North Sea



North Sea, arm of the Atlantic Ocean lying between Great Britain, Scandinavia, and northwest Europe. Rich in fish, gas, and oil, the sea covers 222,125 sq mi (575,304 sq km), and has an average depth of 300 ft (91 m), falling to 2,400 ft (732 m) off Norway. Major gas and oil deposits have been found off the Dutch, Norwegian, and Scottish coasts.
