North Platte



North Platte (pop. 24,509), city in west-central Nebraska, where the North and South Platte rivers join. Founded in 1866, it became the division headquarters of the Union Pacific Railroad and is a major economic center for the region's chief industries, farming and cattle raising. Home to the University of Nebraska's agricultural experiment station, as well as to Buffalo Bill Ranch State Historical Park, the city hosts an annual June rodeo.
