Nonconformists



Nonconformists, in religion, those who will not conform to the doctrine or practice of an established church. Notable were Protestant dissenters from the Church of England, mainly Puritans, who were expelled by the Act of Uniformity (1662). They now include Baptists, Congregationalists, Methodists, Presbyterians, and Quakers.
