Nightshade

Nightshade, common name for a number of plants (family Solanaceae) with small but distinctive tubular or flared flowers. Some nightshades (e.g., deadly nightshade and Jimson weed) produce rounded fruits that may contain poisons, but many are edible crops, e.g., tomato, potato, red pepper, and eggplant.
