Needlepoint



Needlepoint, canvas work, or tapestry, form of embroidery. Designs for needlepoint are outlined on a box grid of the work surface or canvas. A blunt needle and soft yarn are used to create decorative patterns using such stitches as the cross stitch, tent stitch, knotted stitch, and bargello or Florentine stitch. Used to create pictures or patterns for upholstery or clothing garments, needlepoint is classified as, petit point, gros point, and quick point, according to the size of the boxes (and thus the stitches) on the canvas.
