Baguio

Baguio (pop. 119,000), mountain resort city in Luzon in the Philippines. Baguio was developed as a modern city by William Howard Taft, then U.S. governor of the Philippines, when the country was under U.S. rule in the early 1900s. Nearly destroyed during World War II, the city was later rebuilt and is now an important gold-mining center.
