Baboon, large primate monkey of the African savannas (genus Papio), distinguished by long muzzle and great strength. Baboons move in groups of 20 to 150 individuals. They are highly aggressive omnivores with a complex social structure. Their bodies are covered with unusually long hair, except for parts of the face and the buttocks, which may be brightly colored.
